This is an excellent informational center adjacent to San Elijo lagoon. There are well maintained and easy trails through the lagoon that allows beautiful views of the marsh and the birds that frequent the area. We were here on a weekday and thus the visitor traffic was minimal. This gave us a very quiet walk in a very peaceful setting. We were able to see a good variety of birds during our one hour midday visit. Had we come earlier and stayed longer I am certain we would have seen even more species. Great birders destination but also excellent for adults and children to see the magic of the marshes.
Could not visit the center itself as it was closed by the time we reached there. But the building looked great and must be offering great views of the lagoons. Multiple trails are accessible from the parking lot. May be we ended up there at one of the best possible times in the partially cloudy late afternoon. Beautiful trails winding between lagoons and wetlands offering amazing views. One can choose smaller loops to walk or can go for miles.
A place to give yourself a light walk exercise surrounded by a lagoon view and some birds watching. The visitor center staff was also friendly enough to engage with some questions you have. Well, on any given days, I mean warmer days, it’s a nice place to spend an hour or two.
Well, visiting a friend in San Diego, he suggested this hike. At first it was just ordinary, and then we went into Annie’s Canyon. After a little tight canyon slot walk, we climbed up and had an amazing view. If you are as claustrophobic as I am just make sure that you’re aware of how tight it gets. The good news is that it’s one way so you can take your time.
Museum, elevator to observation deck, gorgeous bridges take you above the waterways, we saw a great blue heron, egrets and even a rail. Bathrooms are ADA accessible and the trails near the Visitor's Center are walker friendly. Free parking across the street. Then there is a tortoise to welcome you. The park employees are VERY nice and knowledgeable. AND and excellent start to Annie's Canyon and the trails east of I-5.
Really a treasure to experience. Wildlife is varied and visible. Park Rangers, our community members that maintain the wildlife, trails, our safety, and awesome nature center, are friendly and informative. Thank you Beth!
Wander through the front, out the left and to the back, Franklin loves to have visitors.
The plaques, trusts, people, families from our community, season the path with moments that remind us that no matter what you believe, how you live impacts others and lives on through them. Wonderful chatting with you Mr. And Mrs. Buhr, I went down a little Google rabbit hole to learn more about your son.
Stop and smell the flowers. 🏵️❇️🪻🌺

Great place to have a nice stroll and do a bit of birdwatching. Parking is free and closes at 5pm. Restrooms on-site. The welcome center is really well done and a great spot for kids and adults alike.
Great place to stop with family! Very educational, great for all ages, and has some nice trailheads. The small nature loop near the Nature Center is perfect for a quick walk to see some things when you have a busy day but still want time for a short walk.
